CSL Pastel of Woman
YOUNG WOMAN IN BLUE, c.1880-1895
English Portrait Painter
Pastel on Paper
Monogrammed “CSL”
Framed 17.5″x 20.5″
SOLD

Offering a pastel on paper drawing of a lovely young woman in blue.  She appears to be in her 20’s.  The pastel drawing is rather loose and more of a sketch.  Likely a quick portrait in pastel for a possible oil painting.  The colours are vibrant, with incredible detailing in the face.  Her eyes are amazing and tell a story.  Her face is beautiful, but  naturally less than symmetrical.  She’s certainly a beautiful young woman.  The pastel drawing is well preserved and framed behind glass.
I removed the pastel from it’s frame to have a closer look and clean the interior glass.  The monogram is very close to the edge of the paper, which appears to have been trimmed during it’s history.  It’s glued in a few spots to a board and I was able to shine a light through most of the drawing.  There are no watermarks, a few small rips and creases present.  There are three oil spots, starting on her chest, a bit below is a very small one and a larger one on her blue dress.  The monogram, “CSL” had been written quickly, as opposed to the attention paid with the monogram in his oil paintings.
International shipping available.  The glass will be removed for overseas shipment, leaving the drawing and frame.  It’s too risky to ship glass internationally.
